Personalized Portfolio

Maintaining a professional portfolio website provides you with a distinct advantage over other applicants.

A good portfolio website is a delicate balance of creativity and usability. It should be efficient and functional, yet creative and interesting as well.

The eight steps provide all of the information and resources that I feel are most helpful and relevant to learning how to make a portfolio.

It is very important (especially for artists and designers) to find a middle ground between artistic sensibility and your own technical limitations.

Allot of designers miss a large chunk of their audience by just plain confusing the crap of them.

Aim to make it easy to use, as well as easy on the eyes.

Step Outline

1) Define and De vide the topics your portfolio website will focus on.

2) Buy your Domain name and hosting package.

3) Create a graphical interface that will speak to your personally and style while not overwhelming and detracting from the work on display in your portfolio.

4) Convert your interface into HTML pages.

5) Write Good Content. A paragraph a page will keep the visitors and the search engines happy.

6) Maintain your portfolio website.

7) Search engine strategy

8) Upgrade and perfect the interface and clean deprecated tags out of the code as best you can. (web designer's website's only)

An Inspirational email
Dear Mr. Steven Tchorzewski:

I am a recently graduate of The Ohio State University.

I just got my Bachelor's degree in linguistics in August 2004.
Near the end of my college career I realized that I wanted to do something different from what I majored in.

In essence, I took a few theater classes and fell in love with the aspect of film and editing. I have been working in the past few months to give me a chance to think about how best to pursue my desire to continue my education in the video editing field.

I came across your page while I was researching how to create a video portfolio, something that most colleges require for admission, and was impressed by what I saw.

Much of what you do is what I eventually want to aspire to do. Thus, I was wondering if you would be able to dispense words of wisdom to a 23-year-old aspiring film artist from the path that you have walked.

Thanks for your time,
Sincerely,
Mr. Shuo Chen
